Popular music is music that is liked or known by many people. Popular music is not a musical genre; it can belong to a number of different genres. It can be from any age or time, songs from Frank Sinatra are still well liked today by many people and they continue to sell. Normally the music’s popularity is reflected by its sales and chart success but it does not necessarily mean that popular music is good e.g. Mr Blobby. Generally, it is music that is mass-produced and consumed. Since the 1990’s there has been a surge of popular music with the advancement of technology, more people are consuming music making it easier for songs and artists to be considered popular, even if it is for a limited time. For me though real popular music is music that stays popular for a long time, it is music that we would remember.

This is pretty good. Although as you say, music is consumed in more ways now than ever before, sales of records have actually decreased.
